I grew up as a city boy who happened to sleep and do his homework out in the country. I was encouraged from an early age to go to college, build a career, and buy my food at the grocery store like everyone else. That's exactly what happened—until a little packet of seeds planted a dream in my heart of a new kind of life. A rooted life.

Neither Rebekah nor I knew what we were doing when we started this journey toward growing our own food. Neither of us inherited the skills, knowledge, or experience to be successful homesteaders. We started from scratch, made mistakes, and learned by doing.
