Raíces: Life at the Intersection of Science, Nature and Spirit

Lyanda Lynn Haupt, a naturalist, ecofilosopher, and international speaker, explores the complex relationships between humans and the natural world in her books, at the forefront of the movement to reconnect people with the environment and the call of the wild in their daily lives. Her key works, born out of her observations of birds and her walks through forests and cities, include the award-winning Crow Planet: Essential Wisdom from the Urban Wilderness, which won the 2010 Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award, and Rare Encounters with Ordinary Birds, which received the Washington State Book Award, as well as an urban bestiary that was a finalist for the Orion Book Award.

In her professional life, Haupt has created and directed educational programs for the Seattle Audubon Society, worked in the rehabilitation of birds of prey in Vermont, and conducted research on seabirds for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service in the remote tropical Pacific. Her articles have been published in various media, such as the Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, and Times Literary Supplement.
